Maurice left Ireland in August of 1819, settled in Pennsylvania and then off to California in the gold fever of 1849. He took a ship to Australia where he met and married Sarah. They returned to California where he worked in the Nellie Harrison mine.
Sarah Bowman Reed of Avoca, Ireland, was the daughter of William Reed and Ellen Bowman. They were married on
22 July 1856 in Wairarapa, Wellington, New Zealand, and arrived in the US in
