Son of Edward Sherman who arrived in America from Liverpool, England and settled in Newport, Herkimer County, New York. Mothers name unknown.

Fought in the War of 1812.

His father and mother removed to Minnesota in 1857. Jacob would move his family there in 1868 ending up in Clitherall, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the home of the Cutlerite movement of the Morman Church.

Married Rhoda Stearns, daughter of Levi and Keziah (Wetherbee) Stearns.

Died

On the 23rd of November , 1869, at Silver Lake, in Otter Tail County, Jacob Sherman, aged 72 years. He leaves a wife, many children and a large circle of friends who mourn his loss. Yet all believe he will inherit a mansion prepared for the faithful. He was respected as a neighbor, honored as a father, and loved as a companion. May the blessing of Heaven rest upon his aged widow and comfort his bereaved family.
