She was born June 11, 1937, in Anderson, the daughter of Kelven Kenneth and Virginia Vermillion Jackman. She was raised in Anderson and was a 1955 graduate of Anderson High School. She attended Indiana University Southeast. She was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church in Jeffersonville. She lived in Madison from 1972 to 1996. She was employed as an attendant with the Madison State Hospital in Madison for 23 years, retiring in 1995. She moved back to Madison in 2002. She enjoyed working at McDonald's in Wal-Mart for several years. She also enjoyed membership in the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765. She enjoyed crocheting, watching NASCAR, listening to gospel music and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Chuck Ames of Jeffersonville and Adam Ames of Madison; two daughters, Ginny Gabbard of Madison and Stacy Ames of Corydon; two sisters, Sandra Ledbetter of Commiskey and Rhonda Harvey of Anderson; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Ames and James Walker; one son, Denny Ames, who died May 21, 2000; and her parents.
The funeral was at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. A graveside service and burial was in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
