In 1962, she paired up with singer Willie Nelson and released the Top 10 hit "Willingly", which marked Willie Nelson's first appearance on the Billboard country chart as a recording artist. Marrying Willie Nelson in 1963, they released the single "Touch Me" and performed together until separating in 1971. Before marrying Nelson, she was married to the performer and disc jockey Biff Collie. In 2009, she published "Scrapbooks in My Mind," a book featuring duet Shirley and Willie Nelson and other artists she performed with.
