Mel as he was known, had a little neighborhood grocery store in the 600 block of N. Sexton St. in Rushville. I, like many of the other neighborhood kids, would always go to his store and get candy & gum. Mel was always super nice to all of us. Years later I got the opportunity to know Mel differently as we bowled on the same bowling league together at Rushville Bowl.
