Thomas came to America on the "James", in 1636, with three brothers and a sister. He first settled in Roxbury, but by 1638 was at Agawam. Thomas was Sgt. of the town's Militia.
He was given many public duties, including: allotment of land committee, surveying land, and viewing fences. Both Thomas and his second wife, Elizabeth, are bur in the Springfield Cemetery. They were among the first settlers of Springfield. (Source: "Merrick Genealogy
