Maj. George Daniels, a widely known and highly respected citizen of our village, died on Saturday evening last., of pneumonia, aged 76 years; about a week after his late kinsman and faithful attendant, Chas. Daniels, passed away.
In early life he was employed at a cotton mill at Amoskeag and afterwards was part proprietor in what is now Kaley's Mill. After accumulating a handsome property, he retired from business. While he was careful with his earnings, he befriended the poor and needy, and aided the temperance and other good causes. He represented the town two years in the legislature, the last year being chairman of the Committee on Elections. We recollect hearing him say after the session
that his services netted him 37 1/2 cents. When the present brick school-house was to be built, he was appointed building agent, and by his good judgement and taste caused one of the best houses in the state to be erected, and though he devoted nearly his whole time to it, he would accept no compensation. We all believed in that kind of free agency. The funeral on Wednesday at 11 o'clock
