In 1432 Colin received land grants from his father Duncan Campbell.
In 1437 He was granted other lands and the Barony of Lawers, Perthshire, by King James III, for his services in capturing Thomas Chalmer, one of the assassins of King James I.
In 1440 Colin built Kilchurn Castle in Lach Awe, Argyll, Scotland.
In 1450 he built the castle of Inveraray for a minor nephew, Colin, 1st Earl of Argyll.
He died on 24 September 1480 in the Tower of Strathfillan in Perthshire, Scotland, which Sir Colin built.
