RICE, Clint A. – Dr. Clint A. Rice, aged 63 years of Rogers, dropped dead Sunday evening after having eaten supper in his home. He is company with Mrs. Rice, had spent the day in Pea Ridge with relatives and upon returning to his home remarked that he was feeling tired and faint. After taking some medicine Mrs. Rice applied a cold compress to his head and he felt better. Later he joined his family at the supper table. Afterwards he started to the front of the house and fell in the dining room where he was found dead a few minutes later by members of his family. Mr. Rice was one of a family of nine boys and two girls. He was married to Miss Dora Burks of War Eagle 31 years ago. To them were born two daughters, Mrs. Edward Breedlove of Bentonville and Miss Pauline Rice of Rogers. He has served as county health officer for several years, city health officer of Rogers and as president of the Rogers school board. Mr. Rice was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Rice and was born in Fayetteville in 1865. He was a graduate of the St. Louis Medical College and practiced his profession in Brightwater, Gentry and in Rogers. Two of his brothers were also physicians, Dr. Muncey Rice and Dr. Rufus Rice, both of whom have passed away within the last few years. All three of their widows reside in Rogers. Besides his wife and two daughters he is survived by his four brothers: Rolla and Tim of Pea Ridge, Att'y. Chas. M. Rice of Bentonville and Wilford of Huntsville; his nieces and nephews, Mrs. Tom McNeil, Mrs. Pearl Ball and Miss Anna Rice of Rogers; Hugh Rice, Chicago; Dick Rice, Miami, Okla.; Mrs. Agnes Harris and Will Rice of St. Louis; Mrs. Harry Bebele, Baltimore; Pierce Rice of Washington; Phillip Rice of Omaha, Nebr.; Joe Rice, Huntsville; Mayor Jeff R. Rice of Bentonville and Miss Ethel Rice of Oklahoma City. Funeral services were held at the Central M.E. church at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon the Rev. John A. Womack, pastor and the Rev. R.L. King, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating, assisted by the Masons. It was a most decided shock to the entire community when word was passed around town Sunday night of the sudden death of Dr. Clint Rice at his home, corner of Elm and Arkansas street, the result of heart failure. He had driven to Pea Ridge in the morning and was stricken down a few minutes after his return that evening. He complained of not feeling well and the family phoned for a physician but he passed away before one could arrive. Funeral services were conducted at the Central Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. J.A. Womack, assisted by Rev. Robt. L. King, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Burial in the Rogers cemetery. Dr. Rice was born at Fayetteville May 5, 1865. He was married near Bentonville to Miss Dora Burks by Rev. Peter Carnahan, Presbyterian minister, on April 15, 1897. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Edward Breedlove of Bentonville and Miss Pauline Rice, who lives at homs. He is survived by his wife and four brothers: Chas. Rice, Bentonville; T.S. Rice and R.M. Rice, Pea Ridge; and W.C. Rice, Huntsville. Dr. Rice was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters: Will Rice who was killed during the Civil War at Jenkins Ferry; J.A. Rice, Bentonville; R.S. Rice, Rogers how died five years ago; T.M. Rice, Avoca, who died two years ago; M.B. Rice, Pea Ridge, who died last years; Mrs. Julia Perkins, Texas; Mrs. Mary Mitchell and Miss Hettie Rice, Rogers. He is also survived by a large number of other relatives and friends. In the death Sunday night of Dr. C.A. Rice, Rogers and Benton county lost not only a man who was raised here and who has ever been a leading spirit in ever civic undertaking in his home community, but a man who was respected and loved by all who knew him. Dr. Rice spent most of his professional life in Gentry and in Rogers, coming here fifteen years ago last spring to enter into partnership with his older brother, Dr. R.S. Rice, who died a number of years ago. In addition to his medical practice Dr. Rice has served as both city and county health officer and was for many years a member of the Rogers school board, serving as the president of the board a goodly share of the time. A conscientious worker in everything he undertook, Dr. Rice has been a force for better living and better schools in Benton county and his memory will be honored by the large circle of teacher and pupils with whom he came into contact during his years of service as county health officer.
