John Bedwell was the son of Confederate Civil War soldier William Dawson Bedwell and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson. John Bedwell was the brother to Albert Galiton Bedwell and William Dawson Bedwell, Jr. In 1873 John Bedwell married Martha Isabell Curbow Hodges in McLennan County, Texas. John was the father of Olivia A. "Livia" Bedwell Harrison; Albert C. "Ab" Bedwell - who died in childhood; William F. "Willie" Bedwell; and James Madison "Jimmie" Bedwell. Jonathon Monroe Bedwell died of Meningitis while still a young man.
