John Robert Highley of Exton

John Robert Highley, 85, of Exton, formerly of West Chester, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at New Season, Exton.
He was the husband of the late Anna Worthington Highley.
Born in Wilmington, Del., he was the son of the late John M. and Jessie Walker Highley.
Following his graduation in 1938 from West Chester High School, he worked on his family farm.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army 371st Field Artillery Battalion, 99th Infantry Division, in several major battles, including Central Europe, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and Rhineland.
Following his military service, he was employed as general manager at the Farm Bureau (Agway) in West Chester for many years.
In 1967, he became well drilling manager at Thomas G. Keyes Water Co., where he retired in 1984.
Bob was a member of Landmark Baptist Church for 27 years and was a former member of The Church of Goshenville.
He enjoyed flying his own plane, a J-3 Piper Cub, for a number of years, and was a member of the Aero Club of Chester County and the Pennsylvania Flying Farmers.
He is survived by his two children, Calvin M. Highley of West Chester, and Judith H. Purvis of Florence, S.C.; his grandchildren, Jennifer S. Highley, Kenneth Highley Jr., Rebecca Jones, Anna Purvis and Asher Purvis; his great-grandchildren, Tanner Jones and Alexandria Purvis; and his brother, George Calvin Highley of West Chester.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth R. Highley, who died in 1972.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at Boyd Funeral Home Inc., South Church and West Miner streets, West Chester, 610-696-0182, where family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will follow in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester.
