My "GRAM" was my BEST FRIEND, I loved doing things with her!! My sister, Kay and I always walked with GRAM to Wal Greens every Saturday and then would go to Woolworths, she always let us buy things!! One day we were crossing the street and they had just put in the "Walk and Don't Walk" signs and we started across and it turned to Don't Walk, and Gram 'stopped' because she didn't want to 'break the law' by walking against the light!! Kay and I tried to tell her that it was OK to walk on across, but here we were...standing in the middle of the road, cars honking at us to move. There happened to be a Police car waiting for the opposite light to turn green for him and he saw us and drove his car to the middle of the intersection, turned on his lights, the red and blue ones, and got out and came over to us to see why we were standing there!! When we told him, he chuckled and went over and used his key to change the signs to say "WALK" then we walked on across and he told our GRAM that if we were walking across and the light turned to keep on walking across, that was fine!! He held the "WALK" for us to cross other way then chuckled and went to his car and we continued to go to Woolworth!! Kay and I were so embarrassed but today it is a GREAT story to tell!! I LOVE and MISS my GRAM soooo much!! She is buried next to my Mom with no headstone! :(
