Sarah, her husband William Hickle Graves, and their children lived in the Knoxville area of Tennessee. Graveston was named for his ancestor Boston Graves. William's father James Graves married Nancy Gibbs whose ancestor Nicholas Gibbs fought at King's Mountain. Sarah, William and the kids Charley, and Bertha moved to Texas in a covered wagon. It is not certain whether Pearl died before or after they moved. They had been there about two years when Sarah died. The ladies of her church wrote a touching obituary. Many years later Charley asked his father to take him to his mother's grave. When they got to Higgins Cemetery the grave could not be located because the landmarks had changed. Her unmarked grave had been by a large tree that was no longer there. He left without finding it and never went back.
Today the cemetery is abandoned and overgrown.
Sarah we may not know where your grave is, nor be able to visit and pay our respects but know you are not forgotten.
