Charles G. Baker, son of William Joseph [Transcriber's Note: his father is noted elsewhere as Joseph Harvey] and Mary Eloise (Williams) Baker, was born February 15, 1887 at Chelsea Township Butler County, Kansas. He was called from this life Friday, February 21, 1975 at Knutson Manor in El Dorado, at the age of 88 years, six days.
He was united in marriage to Ellen Blanche DeWar, February 16, 1908 in a ceremony in El Dorado. She preceded him in death November 3, 1972.
Mr. Baker spent his entire life in this area. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and a charter member of the Farm Bureau. He served on the Vanora School Board for many years. Mr. Baker was greatly interested in his state of Kansas. He was always eager to tell people about his home state. He was a devoted family man, and was a well revered man of the community. He was a farmer-stockman, and had retired about eight years ago, due to declining health. One of his great loves on the farm was his horses, in which he took great pride and enjoyment.
Those he leaves to mourn are two sons--Joe J., Apache Junction, Arizona; Clyde D., El Dorado. Four daughters-- Mrs. Noval (Margaret) Faires; Mrs. Stewart (Lucille) McCreight; Mrs. Richard W. (Mary Ellen) Smith; and Mrs. Russell B. (Ruth) Snyder, all of El Dorado. Twelve grandchildren and thirty-one
great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, one son, Charles B.; one sister, and one great-grandson, Russell Dee Baker.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

The service was read by the Rev. James of the First Methodist Church. Both were born in Butler County, Mr. Baker at Cassoday, and Mrs. Baker south of town in the Turkey Creek community.
Mr. Baker has lived on the same farm since he was four years old, and he and Mrs. Baker built their present spacious home, four miles south of EI Dorado, on Haverhill Road, in 1916.
