Arthur is listed as married to a much younger woman (25 years younger to be exact) named Louise of Pennsylvania in 1940. When Arthur died his first wife, and mother of his children, Phoebe, was listed as his surviving spouse in his obituary and on his death certificate. There was no mention of Louise at all. It is possible that Arthur was guilty of polygamy. Whatever the situation, it was traumatic enough for Louise to commit suicide several months after Arthur's passing.
