Ensign J. M. Bregel, USNR, was designated Naval Aviator #7668 in 1941. Had entered active service via the pre-war Aviaton Cadet (AVCAD) program.


Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Bregel, co-pilot of a Lockheed PV-1 Ventura twin-engine patrol bomber, died, along with six other servicemen, when the aircraft crashed when attempting to land at Grand Prairie Naval Air Station following a ferry flight from Calif.


LTJG Bregel left a widow, the former Miss Mary Jean Kiehlbauch of Santa Monica, Calif.
