After Jim graduated from high school in Donalsonville, he joined the Army and fought in the European Theater in WWII. After the war, he met Sabine in Germany where she had fled her Estonian homeland which was being dominated by the Soviet Union. Jim later served in Korea, and in 1960 retired to Donalsonville where he had purchased a farm from his sister Viola. Jim preceded Sabine in death.

From Jon L. Doster: Jim and Sabine had one son, Jim Boyd Doster II, who is still living. Born about 1953.
