LATHAM - Marcia S. Shimer Allen, 81, of Morris died Dec. 28, 2009. Private family burial will be at a later date in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. Send condolences: www.ucdavisandsons.com. Marcia was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Kankakee, the daughter of George H. and Grace L. Burkard Shimer. She was educated in Latham schools. She graduated from Latham High School with the Class of 1946 and Millikin University with a bachelor's degree in education. With her husband and family, she moved to Morris in 1967 to make their home. She was employed with Morris Elementary School District 54 and then, for 17 years, with Saratoga District 60C, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Latham and ZTA sorority at Millikin University. She married Albert J. "Jack" Allen Jr. on March 12, 1949, in Latham. He preceded her in death April 24, 2004. Surviving are children, George (Carol) Allen of Visalia, Calif.; Dr. James R. (Laurie) Allen of Morris; Judi (Bill) Brown of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Robyn and James M. Allen; Morgan, Kirsten and Ali Brown; Albert J. Allen III; Grace K. and Samuel L. Allen; sister, Alice Shimer of Lewiston, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Mary Shimer and Laetitia Lehn.
