Agapita G. Abeyta of Los Ojos, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends Friday, Jan. 8, 2010. She was born in Frances to Juan Cristobal and Agapita Gomez.
She was a retired educator who taught for 36 years which includes teaching in Dulce and Tierra Amarilla Elementary and Middle Schools.
She was preceded in death by Roque, her husband of 58 years; daughter, Veva Abeyta-Rivera; brothers, Celso Gomez, Juan Cristobal Gomez; and her sister, Delfinita Chavez.
Survivors include daughters, Cecilia Grimes (Howard) and Maria Garcia (Denton); granddaughters, Shelley Martinez (Greg), Stacie Spaulding (Bruce), and Roquita Garcia; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Alexis and Bryan Martinez, Kaleis and Mia Spaulding; siblings, Gregorita Jacquez, Matilde Martinez, Molly Jacques, Jose E. Gomez, Ruby Jacquez (Buster), Genevieve Candelaria and Beatriz Rodriguez (B.A.); brothers-in-law, Flavio Chavez and Gabriel Abeyta; numerous nieces, nephews, primos y primas.
Her remains will be received at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, followed by a rosary at San Jose Catholic Church in Los Ojos.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at San Jose Catholic Church, officiated by Msgr. Leo Gomez and Father Clement Niggel.
Interment will follow at San Jose Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Nick Abeyta, Tim Gomez, Denton Garcia, Howard Grimes, Greg Martinez and Bruce Spaulding.
Honorary pallbearers are Jose E. Gomez Jr., Pedro Eloy Casados, Adrian Daugaard, Rigo Chavez and Michael Lucero.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to San Jose Special Project Fund; P.O. Box 6; Los Ojos, NM 87551.
