Ens. Fred Kater, Nay flyer, was killed yesterday when his plane crashed into San Francisco Bay during a training flight, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred H. Kater, 4336 Warne avenue, were notified today by the commander of the field, near Alemeda, Cal. The body has not been recovered, the message stated.
Ens. Kater, 19 years old, attended Beaumont High School and was employed by a brokerage firm before he enlisted in June, 1942.
This was taken from an October 29, 1943 article in a newspaper but I do not know the name of the newspaper.
His body was later recovered. His services were held at Matt Hermann & son undertaking establishment, with burial in Macon, Il.
