Katharina immigrated to the United States with her family in 1846, departing the Port of Bremen in August aboard the ship Elisabeth Denison and arriving at the Port of New Orleans on Dec. 24.
Katharina was married to Wilhelm Friedrich Bode on Nov. 26, 1861, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, Missouri, and they had nine children.
Katharina's brother Gerhard was also married to Wilhelm Friedrich's cousin Margaretha.
