According to his death certificate, Lawrence H. Bernard was born in Limestone County Alabama (but I believe he was born in Madison County) the son of John Bernard and Martha Buffaloe Bernard. The 1860 Alabama Census records his age as 5 years. He and Lee Anna Carmichael were married on October 20, 1879 in Madison County, Alabama. Lawrence was the eldest of the five Bernard children. His siblings were Hardy Thomas., Agness, Iodemia, and John Porter. Lawrence's and Lee's known children were Lura Ida, and Walter Glaze.
---
There are discrepencies in the dates that I haven't been able to resolve but since Martha Buffaloe and John Bernard married in Madison County, Alabama, in January of 1851, I do not think Lawrence was born in 1848 per his death certificate, or 1844 per the 1900 census.
