Ira was the son of Hezekial Othneil Henderson and Lucinda Ann Booth.

On 23 Dec 1916 Ira married Eula Vivian Higgins. Ira and Eula had the following children: Winifred E., Floyd A., Katherine L, Ira (Jr.), Homer L. and Betty Jean.

According to his obituary, Ira worked for the Douglas Air Craft Co. as a tool cutter and grinder prior to retirement. After retiring, Ira lived in Simi Valley for five years. In addition, the obituary notes that Ira was an ordained Baptist minister.

Ira died June 21 in a local hospital after a long illness. He was 78 at the time of his death and living at 1648 Agnew Street.

Huber Chapel Mortuary was in charge. Rev. Dr. Charles Jinks and the Rev. Bruce Pearson, of the First Southern Baptist church, conducted the service. Burial followed the service on 24 June 1974.

The obituary lists the following survivors: his widow, Eula, four sons, Winifred, Eugene Oregon, Floyd, Renton, Wash., Ira Jr., Roseville, CA., Homer, Santa Monica; two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Robison, Glendale, and Mrs. Betty Downard, Simi Valley, 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
