CARLISLE - Luther S. Anderson
76, passed away Sat, Dec 19, 2009 at Johnson-Mathers Health Care after a lengthy illness. He was born July 26, 1933 in Nicholas Co. to the late Roy & Fannie Mae Luman Anderson. He served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed thirty months in Germany, during the Korean War . He was a 52 year member of Carlisle United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent for 11 years. He retired from I.B.M. after 29 years of service. Luther was active in the Nicholas Co. athletic program, little league baseball and Junior High and High School baseball and football. He took great pride in being a certified high school and college baseball umpire and basketball referee. In 2008, he was honored for 45 years of service with the NCHS football program. He also served on the Property Valuation Review Board. He was a member of the Jaycees, serving as president for 1 year, and was a member of Dougherty Lodge #65 F.&A.M. He was associated with Indian Creek Farm for 15 years. He is survived by Lenore R. Anderson, a daughter Carlotta (James) Sweet and was Pa-Paw to two precious grandchildren Shane and Sedona Sweet of Carlisle. Also surviving are 2 nieces Delana (Ted) Feuhner & Gayle Lee Kyale, 2 nephews, James Todd & David Anderson, 2 great nieces and nephews, a great-great niece, a step-granddaughter, Monica (Timmy) Harding, 2 step-great-grandchildren, Alyson & Kenneth Harding, several cousins and many friends, both young and old. He was also preceded in death by a sister Edna Proctor and 2 brothers Marion & Jimmy Anderson. Services will be 1pm Tue from the Carlisle United Methodist Church by Rev. Paul Cropper, Rev. Julian Hammonds and Bro. James Gaunce. Burial with military honors will follow in Carlisle Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Ferrell Alexander, John Argo, Fred Burnaw, Dr. Wm. Frank McKemie, Reese W. Smoot and Larry Tincher. Honorary bearers will be Kimball Booth, Steve & Paul Day, David Hardin, Robert Hopkins, Tyler Hunt, Greg Letcher, Justin Little, James & John Lowe, Andy McCarty, Jordan Mynear, Brandon Price, Jerry Rose, Billy Smith, Mike Sosby, Rondall Storey, Jonathon Tobin, Gerald & Dorsey Watkins, Logan White and Harvey Wilson. Memorial Contributions are suggested to Carlisle United Methodist Church or NCHS Football Program. Visitation will be after 4pm today at the church with Masonic rites at 7pm.
