Son of John and Anna (Sherman) Angier.

He married Ruth Ames, born 1619 in England, daughter of Rev. Dr. William Ames for his first wife. Ruth died 3 July 1656 in Cambridge shortly after the birth of their sixth child. Only, Ruth, born 1647; and Samuel, born 1655 lived to adulthood. Three boys all named John died as children, and Ephraim, born 1652 lived until 16 January 1679.

He married Ann Batt on 12 January 1657 for his second wife. They had nine children. Edmund, born 1659; Hannah, 1660; Mary, 1663; John, 1664; Nathaniel, 1665; Elizabeth, 1667; Sarah, 1669; Joseph, 1672; and Mary, 1680.

All children from both marriages were born in Cambridge.
