Harry James Roebling passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in SSF; four days before his seventy-ninth birthday after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease & Parkinson's Disease.
Devoted husband of Lori for nearly forty-five years, beloved father of Julie Romero (Augustine) and Catherine Roebling (Fiancé Tom O'Connor), cherished grandfather of Michael Roebling, Augustine Jr. & Michael Romero. Also survived by brother Philip (Wanda) and nephew Patrick. Preceded in death by his parents Milton T. "Uncle Miltie" and Genevieve E. Roebling, two sisters in infancy and brother William.
Harry attended Mission Dolores and graduated with honors from Lowell High School, Class of 1949.
In 1950, he joined the US Marines and proudly served his country with the 1st Div. in Korea. After military service he attended City College of SF earning his degree. In 1956, he began his career with the phone company, working thirty-three years for PT&T, Pacific Telesis, Pac Bell, AT&T, and Attis, retiring with Lucent Technologies in 1989.
Among his most memorable assignments were during the presidential visits of Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Ford, and Reagan to SF. Another prestigious assignment was during the 1984 Democratic National convention to accommodate the needs of NBC.
As a Roebling decedent, at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1987, he was invited to join the Roebling, New Jersey Contingent of surviving Golden Gate Bridge Workers and enjoyed festivities aboard the Bay Charter "OSKI". Known for his wit and humor he had many entertaining stories to tell during his life and career. Harry & Lori were married in 1965 at Star of the Sea, in SF and were nearing their 45th anniversary in February. A forty-one-year resident of Daly City, he was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish and past member of the Men's Club.
In younger years was very active in parish activities. Everyone knew him as a very giving and caring person, always willing to lend a hand. His spirit lives on In the heart of those who knew and loved him. We will remember his smile, laugh, and quick wit along with the love and joy he brought to our lives.
Friends may visit on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 from 4:00-9:00 p.m. and are invited to attend the Vigil Service on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 1 Elmwood Drive, Daly City. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
