Services were held Saturday, January 9th, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at the Reed Chapel Baptist Church, San Augustine, Texas with the Rev. Clois Rodgers officiating. Funeral under the direction of Percy Garner & Son Mortuary, San Augustine, Texas.
Sister Ella Brooks Atkins the daughter of the late E.M. Brooks and Missouri Dove Brooks was born September 25, 1909. She was the second child born of nine children. On December 30, 2009, Sister Atkins willingly and readily accepted her call to go home and be with her Lord and Savior. (She was preceded in death by her husband Sam Atkins, father, E.M. Brooks, mother, Missouri Dove Brooks, sons, D.W. Williams and E.D. Malone, two sisters, Ella Mae Coleman and Louise Apparicio, six brothers, I.V., Hebert, Gaylon, Berlie, Eugene and John L. Brooks. She united with Pisgah Baptist Church at an early age.
Ella leaves her legacy of love to be cherished and remembered by her two daughters, Jolene Williams (Billy) and Margie Austin (Clarence) of Broaddus, Texas; seven grandchildren raised by her, Samuel and Sanford Brooks of San Augustine, Texas; Terry Teagle, Gail Briscoe, Debra Wade and Jackie Green of Houston, Texas; and Angela Teagle of Baton Rouge Louisiana; three great grandchildren raised by her, Sanford Phoeshae Trottie and DeMond Teagle of Houston, Texas and DeMarcus Teagle of Lufkin, Texas; one sister-in-law, Vita Lee Brooks; 32 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, 77 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
