Aged Resident of DuBois Dies at Luthersburg
Mrs. Susan C. Beard, a well-known resident of this city, passed away Friday morning at 10:55 o'clock at the home of her son, Warren Beard, of Luthersburg at the age of 80 years. Death was due to a complication of diseases.
The deceased was the daughter of Andrew Johnson and Eliza London and was born Jan. 27, 1858. She is the widow of Alonzo S. Beard, first photographer of DuBois who preceded her in death in 1886. She had been a resident of this city for most of her life and has been a devout member of the Mr. Zion church.
She is survived by the following sons: Warren, of Luthersburg; Guy, of DuBois, and Carl, of Washington, D.C.; also ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and the following sister and brothers, Mrs. J. O. Lenkard, of R.D. 1, DuBois; one twin brother, J. K. Johnston, of Reynoldsville; Charles Johnston, of DuBois; John Johnston, of Buffalo, N.Y.; Joseph Johnston, of Williamsport; David Johnston, of Trenton, N.J., and William Johnston, of Wisconsin. The following preceded her in death, George McClellan Johnston, of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Mary Winslow, of Benezette, Pa. and Mrs. Nancy Taylor of Reynoldsville.
Funeral services are to be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Moore Funeral chapel, with Rev. W. O. Calhoun, of Brockway assisted by Rev. Paul K. Scott, of the Mt. Zion Methodist church, this city, officiating. Interment will be made in Rumbarger cemetery.
