Rene Marion Pittman served in the 7th State Guard Infantry Regiment of Georgia, and enlisted as a Sargent in Company K at the age of 49 years on May 31, 1961. (documented in US Civil War Records and Profiles) His son George Washington Pittman, also enlisted in the Confederacy with Company B 7th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry in June 1861 at the age of 18 years.
