John Finley, Civil War Veteran, Co. C, 2nd IA Cavalry,
born Apr. 6, 1833 at Wigtonshire, Scotland, died: May 8, 1917, married Mary Cargill at Red Oak, Va. 1868, Mary born 1845, died Aug. 30, 1912.
He came to America in 1857 settling in Lehigh County, PA. In 1858, he moved to Cedar County Iowa, and in the fall of 1861, enlisted at Davenport in the 2nd Iowa Cavalry. After 3 years of service, he was honorably discharged at Nashville, Tennessee.
They came to Ida County in Feb. 1882, settling in Corwin Twp. where they farmed until they moved to Ida Grove in 1905.
Their children: Fred of Nebraska; Mrs. Geo. Morrice of Battle Creek; George of Mapleton; John of Jefferson, SD; Mrs. H. P. Rice of Holstein; and Clara E. at home.
