She was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Rutland, a daughter of the late John and Elma (Andrews) Wells. She married Charles Carlson on June 26, 1937, in Varna. He preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 2005.
She is survived by one son, Charles (Theresa) Carlson of Albuquerque, N.M.; one daughter, Lynn (John) Phillips of Varna; four grandchildren, Brian (Anne) Rinaldo, Jeff (Sherry) Rinaldo, Rich (Allison) Carlson and Cathy (Gordie) Nehsenbeny; two step grandchildren, Janelle Phillips and Dana Phillips; nine great-grandchildren, Kieron, Justin, Samantha, Jordan, Jennifer, Brandy, Tabatha, Jessica and Amber; and four great-great-grandchildren, Payton, Kyler, Jasmine and Aubrey.
She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Ethelyn was Varna postmaster from February 1979 to October 1992.
She was a lifetime member of the Varna Women's Club and First Lutheran Church of Varna.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A combined memorial service will be held for Ethelyn and her husband, Charles at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon.
Graveside services will be held at Salem Lutheran Cemetery No. 2 at a later date.
