Samuel Norbert Bland, a 78 year old resident of Star Route, Cloverport, died suddenly at his home Thursday night, June 2, of an apparent heart attack. He was born May 12, 1910 in McQuady, son of the late Walter and Delilia Jackson Bland. Mr. Bland was a farmer and a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, McQuady. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Eddie R. Bland. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Mattingly Bland; 1 daughter, Mrs. Ann Stroby Keenan of Hardinsburg; 2 sons, Donald Bland and William Bland, both of Hardinsburg; 2 sisters, Mrs. Jennie Lee Hinton, Lewisport, and Mrs. Ruby Mae Neff of Hardinsburg; 5 brothers, Bernard Bland, of McQuady, Morris Bland of Illinois, J. W. Bland of Hardinsburg, Kelly Bland of Florida and Carl Bland of Louisville; 8 grandchildren and a great-grandson. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church with the Rev. Pete Hughes and the Rev. Pat Reynolds officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg, in charge of the arrangements.
