A native of Spartanburg, S.C., and a resident of Buncombe County most of her life, Mrs. Hawkins retired in January of 1980, following 30 years of service, from the National Climatic Center where she was a weather technician. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and the daughter of the late Carl Lloyd Thompson and Mary Sue McGraw Thompson. She was the wife of Uyless Napolean Hawkins who died on Jan. 15, 2005.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Judy Hawkins Dillingham and Mike Dillingham of Bossier City, La.; grandchildren, Joy Lewis and husband, Nathan and Jill Hines and husband, Ronnie; great-grandchildren, Chase, Joshua, Devan Claire and Julia Grace.
The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Dr. James Johnson and Worth Emory officiating.
