Betty Swearengin Fitzgerald, age 77, of Sparta, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009, in Glenwood Healthcare, Seymour.

She was born July 29, 1932 in Dogwood, the daughter of Murlin and Ida (Yates) Swearengin. On October 27, 1951, she was united in marriage to Emra Fitzgerald. He preceded her in death as well as her parents and a brother, Tommy. Betty attended Dogwood Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

Survivors include three brothers, Jimmy Swearengin and wife Katherine, Dean Swearengin and wife Dortha, all of Sparta, and Dwight Swearengin and wife, Diana, Seymour; three sisters, Peggy Grimes and husband Jess, Rogersville, Joan Workman and husband Stanley, Dogwood, and Janis Preston and husband Bill, Sparta; two special nieces, Melanie Mayes and Mikka Swearengin; and many other relatives.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Glenwood Healthcare and Preferred Hospice.

A graveside funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 2, in Dogwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
