Family Tribute

Vernon E. Kilpatrick (1920-2009)

Long time Eugene resident, Vernon Kilpatrick, died December 29, 2009 at home surrounded by family. He was 89 and died of age-related causes.

He was born August 16, 1920 in Oregon, on Grand Island, to Eber and Iva Kilpatrick. He graduated from high school in Keno, Oregon and then briefly attended Southern Oregon College prior to entering the Air Force in World War II where he served in Italy. After the war he graduated in Accounting from the University of Oregon, where he met and married Jean Gilson in Eugene on June 26, 1948.

Over the course of his career in Eugene he was an accountant with Zip-O-Log Mill and then financial officer and partner in Camac Veneer, Triangle Veneer, and Tangfeldt Wood Products.

Vern was a lifelong supporter of the Active 20-30 Club, Eugene Downtown Lions Club and the Greater Eugene Stamp Club, and he served on the Salvation Army Board. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Sandra Herz (Michael) of Eugene and Nancy Michaels (Larry) of Salem; sons, Stephen (Christina) of Eugene and Michael (Janis) of Cheshire; 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. His sister, Betty Rae Kilpatrick Manock preceded him in death. His ashes will be scattered at the family cabin on Crescent Lake where many fond memories of work parties and family reunions were created.

He will be missed for his hearty laugh, good humor and his "knock you over" high fives at Duck games. Among his friends and family he was the only one who knew all the verses to the Oregon Fight Song!

A celebration of Vern's life will he held later this summer.
