Victor was the 2nd son of artist Gottried Lindauer & his 2nd wife Rebecca Petty.
He was a headmaster and teacher at Russell. He devoted 28 of his 75 years to the study of the marine algae of New Zealand

He married Elsie May Lovell in Woodville on 10 May 1927, daughter of George Enoch Lovell & Annie Elizabeth Melhuish, of Woodville
