Doyle F. Beard, 71, of 204 W. Second St., Sheridan, died Sunday, June 3, 1979, in Long Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Aug 26, 1907, in Marion County to Fred J. and Bessie B (Lines) Beard. Mrs. Beard, of Sheridan, survives.
He was married June 3, 1930, to the former Mary N. Cain, who also survives.
Beard had been a Sheridan businessman since 1935. He was a partner in Western Fur Co., established by his father. He and his twin brother, Paul, who died in 1978, owned Pioneer Frigidaire Appliance and Furniture Business. Fountain Shop Drug Store, Wagon Wheel Barber Shop, and the Wooden Indian Addition east of Sheridan.
Beard was a member of the Sheridan Business Association. He attended Sheridan Christian Church.
Beard was a local historian and collected photographs of Sheridan and Hamilton County. He authored "The Sheridan Centennial," which was published in 1960. He had traveled extensively in the western states in search of western lore.
Survivors also include a daughter, Barbara N. Mock of Sheridan; two sons, William D. of Sheridan and Daniel P. of Indianapolis; two brothers, James B of Sheridan and William N. of Carmel; four sisters, Mrs. Delight Gunderson, Mrs. Ingle Barricks, Mrs. Betty Brocato and Mrs. Patty Dunlavey, all of Sheridan; and two grandchildren, Marystar Ely and Jesse D. Ely, both of Sheridan.
