Anna never knew life in our homeland of Sudan. She was born, as we began our journey as refugees in Cairo, Egypt on July 14, 2002. She arrived in her new country of America in San Antonio with our family in 2003. She was a totally innocent, loving, and cooperative child. I was so proud of her graduation diploma from kindergarten that she received on June the 4th. Sometimes when I lay on the bed exhausted from working and driving from San Antonio, Anna would quietly walk in the room and give me the softest kiss before going to school. I offer her to God. Anna died June 7, 2008 in Austin, Texas. (Edward, Anna's Father)
When Anna would come from school, she would pick a flower along the way and bring it to me. When I would be upset with all difficult problems, Anna would come to me with kisses and hugs and ask, "Are you ok, Mom ?" On Mother's Day, when Anna found out that I hadn't received flowers, she went out and picked a leaf from a tree and brought it to me. Anna was the best one in the house at taking care of her baby brother. She would come when I called her and bring me what I needed. Every day I would bring her a treat when I picked her up from school and Anna would always say, 'Thanks Mom." One of Anna's favorite things was to take the stickers that she won at school and stick them all over my face and all over my clothes. Then she would laugh. On her last day, she cleaned the bathroom and helped me sweep the floor.

Anna was a gift from God. After my Mom gave birth to four brothers in a row, I didn't really believe it was possible that I would ever have a sister. I was so happy when she was born. She was my only sister. She was my best friend. She would always come and tell me that she was sorry that I was upset. On the phone, when I was away, she would always ask when I was coming back. She would tell me that she missed me. When I would come home, she was always the first to run and hug me. She would always wear the dress that I brought her from New York. She loved that dress. She would tell everyone that I bought it for her. She would always thank me for buying her that dress. Sometimes she would bring a book in the middle of the night and ask me to read it to her. I would read the book, she'd thank me, and then she'd go to sleep. She loved to pick out clothes for me to wear and to fix my hair. (Emmanuela, Anna's Sister)
When I would come home from school, she would tell my Mom that I was home. Then, she would ride laughing on my foot, as I would walk to my room. She would take my shoes off and put them in the closet. Then she would jump on my back and I would carry her to Mom. When I brought candy for her, she would always want to share it with everyone. She loved to jump on my bed. When I would be sad, she'd come and try to make me laugh and pull on my leg. She would always say," thank you, hi, and bye."
