Indianapolis Journal - Saturday, May 26, 1888:
Word was received yesterday of the death of Mrs. James T. Robe at Kalamazoo, Michigan, whose husband but recently died at the advanced age of eighty-one. Mrs. Robe was several years his junior but has been in failing health for some time. A temporary illness contracted less than a week ago developed into fatal complications, and she died at 1 o'clock on Tuesday morning. Mrs. Robe was the mother of Mrs. W. H. Smith of this city who left on Thursday to attend her, and she was a sister to Rev G. H. McLaughlin and Mr. W. H. McLaughlin, among the oldest and best-known citizens of Marion County. Mr. Robe was recently buried at Crown Hill, and Mrs. Robe will be interred there on Monday afternoon, funeral services being held at Kalamazoo tomorrow.

The burial of the late Mrs. J. T. Robe of Kalamazoo was made at Crown Hill yesterday afternoon in the presence of the immediate relatives and a few friends. Rev. Dr. Lynch conducted the services, assisted by Rev. Dr. Fore of Central Avenue Church. The funeral party reached the city from Kalamazoo at half past 3 o'clock and proceeded directly from the station to the cemetery. Mr. W. H. McLaughlin of Cherryvale, Kansas, a brother of Mrs. Robe, was present, arriving from the West about the hour of the service. Mrs. Robe passed the early years of her life in this county and rests with her husband amid familiar scenes of her old home.
