US NAVY - WORLD WAR II, KOREA, VIETNAM

John O. Heckman, Jr., 80, of the Essex House in Lemoyne and formerly of Enola, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He retired as a Chief Petty Officer with 21 years of service with the U.S. Navy. John served in WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War; he also retired from Hall Motor Transit as a Diesel Mechanic and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 776, Harrisburg. John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Enola. He was the Chaplain and member o f the Enola VFW Post 617.
He was the widower of Geraldine A. Heckman.
He is survived his children: Jo Ann Powanda and husband John R., of Shillington, John R. Heckman and wife Louise of Mechanicsburg, Jamie L. Rickenbach and husband Gary of Richfield, Jill L. Hanzel and husband George of Enola, Janine A. Howe and husband Garland of Smithfield, North Carolina, Jody S. Heckman Bose and husband Sudip of Glenn Dale, Maryland; two brothers, George Heckman, and Paul L. Heckman; and a sister, Ethel Mae Heckman; 9 grandchildren, Allysha P. Winburn, Bryna L. Rickenbach, John J. Heckman, Kailyn L. Rickenbach, Thomas A. Heckman, Marissa A. Howe, Mackinsay A. Howe, Garland I. Howe, and Sophie I. Bose, and he had many special friends at the Essex House; two are Dorothy Rhone, and James Fitzsimmons. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert E. and James T. Heckman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in Zion Lutheran Church, 265 N. Enola Drive, Enola. Viewings will be held from 7-9 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2009 and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be in Enola Cemetery.
