Chesterton resident Dallas B. Summers, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at The Waters of Duneland.
He was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Chesterton, the son of Dallas L. and Ruth L. (Spencer) Summers, who preceded him in death.
On Oct. 18, 1947, in Chesterton, he married I. Joan Saidla, who survives in Chesterton.

Dallas was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division, fighting in the Philippines and serving in occupied Japan. He was a life-member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2511, where he was past-commander and past VFW 2nd District commander. He also served as national VFW aide-de-camp for a year and was currently serving as Post 2511 chaplain.
Dallas belonged as well to American Legion Post 170.
He was a 25-year card-carrying Girl Scout, a charter member of Friends of the Indiana Dunes, and a ham radio operator with the handle "Burt" and his call W9VAY since 1952.
Dallas was retired from the Youngstown Steel Company after 30 years of service and was owner-operator of Chesterton Camera Repair until his retirement after 20 years of service.
