Lorene Platt DeWitt was called home April 30, 2008, in Palo Alto, Calif. She was born Jan. 19, 1912, in St. Johns.
Lorene was an Arizona native and fourth generation pioneer. She loved the White Mountains, where she was born and raised, and where she raised her family.
Lorene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints and held several positions within the church over the years. She held the position of secretary to the county attorney of Apache County for many years. In her youth, she was known as the "Belle of St.Johns," and to many, especially her family, held that title all her life.
Lorene is survived by three daughters, Gayle DeWitt of San Jose, Calif.; Mimi (Richard) Peery of Palo Alto, Calif.; Greer DeWitt King of Mesa; son Kim B. DeWitt of Kearny; and seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wallace B. DeWitt, and son Wallace B. DeWitt Jr.
Services will be held in St. Johns Saturday, May 10, at the Downtown Chapel with viewing at 11 a.m. and service beginning at noon.
Interment will follow at the St. Johns cemetery.
