W. H. Gordon Dies in Commerce At Age of 89

William Henry Gordon, 89, of Commerce, died Monday, Aug. 22 in Banks-Jackson-Commerce Hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held in the First Methodist Church in Commerce at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 to 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Claude Hendricks, pastor of the First Methodist Church will officiate.

Burial will be at Sunshine Methodist Church cemetery in Round Oak. The body will lie in state from 4:30 to 5 p.m. in the Sunshine Methodist Church.

Mr. Gordon was born in Jones County, the son of Hugh H. Gordon and Martha T. Gordon. He was a retired lumberman and farmer and was a member of the First Methodist Church in Commerce. He made his home in Commerce for 18 or 19 years, after spending many years at Crawford, where he operated a lumber yard.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Jarrell Jordan of Commerce, a son, Mose Gordon Sr., of Commerce, a former member of the state highway board; two daughters, Mrs. Ruby G. Wheeler of Atlanta and Mrs. Harold Clark of Forsyth, and five grandchildren.

Little-Ward Funeral Home of Commerce was in charge of arrangements.
