Daughter of Ora Belle and John R. Kelly. She grew up in Oregon. She received her nursing diploma from Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita, KS. Upon leaving school she returned to Oregon where she worked as a nurse. She was united in marriage to W. Keith Jacobs in Vancouver, WA. They returned to Nebraska to farm in 1943. Gretchen worked as a nurse at the Fairbury Clinic and Jefferson County Memorial Hospital until she moved to Lincoln in 1977. She was active in the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Daykin and Calvary Lutheran in Lincoln. In 1996 she and her husband retired to Eastmont Towers in Lincoln, NE.
Survivors include her husband Keith, daughter and son-in-law Jan and Bob Sibal, Lincoln, and several nieces Leila Niemann Palm Springs, CA, Donna Hall and Patsy Peeler of Roseburg, OR. sister-in law Ruth Johnson and her children Mary Meyer, Steve, Robert, Douglas, Richard and Gregory Johnson and a great granddaughter Shelby Sibal. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother John S. Kelly, sister Catherine Mardin , grandson Gregory Sibal, infant son John Edwin, and in-laws Lydia and Edwin Jacobs.
