Joseph Abner Adkins was born on January 3, 1897 in New Sharon, Iowa the son of John and Grace Medley Adkins. He passed away at his home near Columbia on Saturday, November 13 at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 10 days. He had been in failing health for several months.

He was united in marriage to Minnie Gravitt Adkins on February 8, 1919 and the couple made their home near Columbia for the past 47 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbia, Gavel Lodge No. 229 A. F. & A. M. of Attiva, Order of the Eastern Star, United Auto Worker's Local 997, Modern Woodmen of America. He had been a 14 year employee of Maytag, retiring in 1965.

Preceeding him in death were his parents, three sons and one daughter.

Left are his wife, Minnie, one daughter Mrs. Doran Lillian Spires of San Fernando, California, two grandchildren, his half sisters Mrs. Mary Smith of Albia, Mrs. Lizzie Sitter of Sidney, Montana, Mrs. Clara Harker of Warsaw, Illinois, Mrs. Veda DeVoll of Lovilla, one half brother William Gregg of Solvane, California.
