Carolyn Ruth Gower was born in Skowhegan, Maine, the daughter of George W. Gower and his second wife Grace E. Tolman. Carolyn and Merle Raymond Brown were married in East Hartford, Connecticut, on September 19, 1948. She loved beautiful china and travelling. Carolyn and her husband spent winters at their home in Florida and went to an island retreat in Maine in the summer. She hoped to be a mother, but was a special aunt. She was a teacher and when she died she left an endowment for educational scholarships.
