June Nicklin Nelson, 85, Chanute, Kansas, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

June was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania, on June 3, 1924, the daughter of Clarence and Iva Mae (Rhodes) Nicklin.

She graduated from Chanute High School in the Class of 1942 and took extension courses at Pennsylvania State College.

She was united in marriage to Harley D. Nelson on June 22, 1962 in Chanute, Kansas. He survives, of the home.

June worked as a school secretary in California, a phone operator during WWII and a secretary for BMA Insurance.

June was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she taught 3rd grade Sunday School. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a talented artist.

Survivors include her husband, Harley; a daughter, Nicki (Newland) Raspotnik and husband, Bart, of Longmont, CO; a son, Daniel Lee Newland; three grandchildren, Alexander Canby, Tatianna Raspotnik, and Olivia Raspotnik, all of Longmont, CO; and a sister, Marion Williams, of Bradford, PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson Christian Canby; and a brother Tom Nicklin.

Her body has been donated to the KU Medical Center for research purposes.

Memorials in her name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church for restoration of their stained glass windows.
