CHARLES M. SAILORS was born in Wabash County July 29, 1846. His father, the Hon. Jacob L. Sailors, is a native of Franklin County, Ind. and at an early day moved to Wabash County. He has served as a member of the Lower House of Representatives of the State, is a man of good native ability and an ardent Republican. His mother, Catherine (Jack) Sailors, is a native of Bath County, Ky., and "Aunt Katie," as she was familiarly called, is highly esteemed by all who know her.
In 1855 the subject of this sketch began to clerk in his father's dry goods store, and a few years later worked on his father's farm. In response to a call for six months' troops, he enlisted in the One Hundred Eighteenth Indiana Volunteer Infantry on July 29, 1863 and at the expiration of his term of service he re-enlisted in the One Hundred and Thirty-eighth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and served until the close of the war. From 1865 to 1868 he again served as clerk in his father's store. From 1872 to 1877 he acted as commercial salesman for a wholesale clothing house. In 1879 Mr. Sailors married Miss Lina Marcy, of Peru, Ind. He is now engaged in the grocery business and his genial and obliging disposition secures for him a large share of the public patronage.
Cause of death: Typhoid fever.
