William was born in Oceanside, but grew up in San Diego where he lived with his parents, until he enlisted in the Marines, 8 September 1967, at a recruiting office in Los Angeles.
When William arrived in Vietnam 24 February 1968, he was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. The battalion was participating in Operation Scotland II with Fox Company operating 6 kilometers east southeast of the Khe Sanh Airfield, when the Marines were engaged by hostile forces. William died as a result of gunshot wounds to head and body from hostile small arms fire.
Survived by his parents, Edwin Jacob and Erma Marcella Fix of 816 Jamaica Court, San Diego, California.
