Robert Wesley Allen, 85, of Loveland, died in the presence of loved ones and full of peace, Feb. 24, 2008, at his residence.
Bob was born June 30, 1922, in Charlotte, N.C., to Frontis Clyde Allen and Jeanette Mann Allen. He married Emily Justice Allen on Feb. 9, 1946, in Haddon Heights, N.J.
He graduated from high school in Charlotte, N.C. and attended Lees-McCray Junior College in Banner Elk, N.C. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp as a Navy cadet in 1942 and served in the USMC in the South Pacific during World War II flying corsairs. During the Korean War, he flew helicopters and airlifted the wounded from behind enemy lines to MASH units. He was honored to fly dignitaries from Pan Mun Jom to the peace negotiations. Bob served as the commanding officer at El Toro air base in Santa Ana, Calif. and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and five air medals. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1954.
Among his many loves in life was playing duplicate bridge in which he attained the rank of lifemaster. Bob taught duplicate bridge in Newport Beach, Calif. for the Parks and Recreation department. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Emily; daughters, Kathy and husband Paul, Bev and husband Bruce, Janet and husband Tom; granddaughters, Lisa, Andrea, Stephanie, Emily, Heather, Erika; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial service Saturday, 4:30 p.m., All Saints Episcopal Church, the Rev. Sathi Bunyan officiating.
Inurnment All Saints Episcopal Church Columbarium.
